  • Troubleshooting Brake Rite Disc Brake Electric over Hydraulic Actuator On 2018 Ford F-450
  • The factory brake controller on your 2018 Ford F-450 is designed to work on electric over hydraulic brake systems. One note I did find in your owners manual is brake output is diminished by the truck at speeds of 11mph or lower so this will explain why when you press the brake pedal you do not get the same output as when using the manual activation. The simplest way to test the actuator is by simply pulling the breakaway cable and verifying it does activate and continuously run. You will...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring With 2008 Ford F-450
  • For the issue with your running lights test the connector on your vehicle with Circuit Tester # PTW2979 or a similar one after disconnecting it from your trailer. If the signals going to your harness are okay, you'll need to test the signals coming out of the harness, and if they are correct then your issue is likely going to be with the trailer side wiring. You will also want to check both your vehicle and trailer connectors for corrosion, which can be green or white in color. A build-up...

  • What Would Cause Only Middle Axle Trailer Brakes of Triple Axle to Function
  • I would say it's most likely a wiring issue. You'd want to get under the trailer and make sure the brake output circuit wire is ran to all of the brake assemblies and then also grounded properly. Most likely the wiring has made it to the middle axle but some type of short or cut wire is preventing it from getting to the front and rear axles. If you have to do some wiring you'd need to use 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 which we sell by the foot.

  • Troubleshooting Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator that Cycles Off and On Frequently
  • When we see the problem you described with an electric over hydraulic actuator it is almost always because the brake controller being used is an integrated brake controller that is not designed to work with EOH actuators. If this problem persists the actuator can end up getting damaged. For an aftermarket brake controller that is designed for EOH actuators that would work well I would recommend the Prodigy P2 # 90885. The correct install harness you would need is the part # 3034-P.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up all the Time
  • If you aren't sure where the factory brake controller is on your 2008 Ford F450 you may not even have one. It should be just to the right of the steering wheel on the dashboard. Your trailer brakes being locked up all the time could be due to a short on the trailer wiring circuit. What it sounds like is happening is the 12 volt accessory circuit of your wiring harness is shorted out to the brake output circuit. I would inspect the inside and outside of both the connector on your truck...

  • Reese 22K 5th Wheel Hitch Makes Noise During Starts and Stops
  • There is a little play in the head where it mounts to the cross member. A little bit of noise is to be expected given the stresses involved in towing a 5th wheel trailer. There isnt a cushion that is made to prevent this from happening because a cushion would also limit the movement of the head. Movement in the legs should not be occurring though if all 4 bolts are used (2 on each side) and they are torqued to specifications. I have included a link to the installation instructions for...

  • Troubleshooting No Power at 12v Power Pin on 2008 Ford F-450 with Factory Trailer Plug
  • In order to supply 12v power to your 7 way plug like the 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Plug - GM, Ford, Ram, Toyota - 9' Long # 50-97-410 there will be a direct connection to the battery from the pin at 1-o'clock when looking at the front of the 7 way. It's likely that your 2008 Ford F-450 has a blown fuse that is associated with the factory towing components, so you'll want to consult the owner's manual to determine which fuse box the towing fuses are located in...

  • Troubleshooting Excessive Bucking While Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer
  • My first thought is that something is going on with the wiring on either the truck's brake output circuit or on the trailer's brake wiring. I would start by inspecting and cleaning both the trailer and truck's 7-way connectors. Then use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, and test the truck's at the 5 O'clock pin while someone engages the manual override. With a factory integrated controller, I doubt this is your issue, but this'll rule it out right away. I'm thinking the issue is on...

  • Troubleshooting 5th Wheel Clearance with Bed Side Rails of 2019 Ford F-450 Super Duty
  • I'm sorry to hear about the clearance you are experiencing while towing with your 2019 Ford F-450. While I can see where you would think that the B&W Companion # BWRVK3300 could be the problem, there some other things that you can do to help make sure that you get the proper clearance of your 5th wheel over your bed rails. In addition to the various height settings of the Companion you can also adjust the height of your pin box on your trailer with the different adjustment holes. If your...

  • Troubleshooting Wiring On Brake Controller Installed On 2011 Ford F-450
  • It sounds like you may have a wiring issue somewhere. You will want to do some troubleshooting on the brake controller system to locate the problem. First, you will want to check the blue wire coming out of the brake controller with a circuit tester like part # PTW2992. You need to probe the blue wire and then step on the brake. If you are getting no signal, then you may have the red wire connected to the wrong place on the stop light switch located above the brake pedal. The red wire needs...

  • Troubleshooting Locking Kodiak Calipers
  • A locked up caliper, such as the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR858A is often the result of either the piston or the flex hose not allowing brake fluid to move in and out of the piston. You can test the piston to make sure it retracts properly and does not drag on the pads by collapsing both pistons with a piston caliper compressor after cracking the bleeder valve open. If while you're doing this you're getting a lot of resistance when the pistons are being pushed back in, that could be...

  • Troubleshooting Camper Trailer Lights Not Working
  • It is not very common to get nothing in the way of your lights working or not. Typically you will get at least something working or partially working. I am sure you have already done this but make sure that the plug is fully seated when plugged into the trucks 7-way. Also, if your truck has both the truck bed 7-way and a 7-way at the bumper try the connector you haven't already tried to see if it works. If neither of those solves the problem I would move on to making sure your wires and...

  • Troubleshooting 2017 Ford F-450 Integrated Brake Controller that Only Works with Override Lever

  • Installation of Brake Controller for Ford F-450 Cab and Chassis Trips All Dash Lights
  • I would first make sure that you have the Tekonsha # 22292 adapter plug, which is the plug designed to work with the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 on your motorhome with the 2019 Ford F-450 cab and chassis. It looks like the plug you're looking for should be located behind an access panel on the passenger side of your motorhome and not under the dash board near the. I've linked an installation video for a 2008 F-450 Cab and Chassis that should be very similar to your vehicle. I can't say that...

  • Locations for Left and Right Turn/Stop Trailer Fuses on a 2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty
  • I took a look in the online version of the owner's manual for your 2011 Ford F-450 Super Duty and it looks like the right turn/stop is fuse location 13 while the left turn/stop is fuse location 14 in your passenger compartment fuse box. In the power distribution box (under the hood) the left turn/stop is location 74 while the right turn/stop is location 75. I recommend verifying this in your copy of the owner's manual. If these fuses look good but you still aren't getting a signal when...

  • No Power Sent to Trailer Brakes Using Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller with Override Knob
  • In regards to the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885, the only issue I could see with the manual override not working is simply a low gain setting. In order for the manual override to apply full power to the brakes, you'll need to make sure it's turned all the way up. If the override still does not work even with full power, the controller is defective and will need to be replaced. Please note, you should be checking wire voltage at the back of the controller when...

  • Troubleshooting Dexter DX Series EOH Disc Brake Actuator K71-651 That Does Not Release Brakes
  • Dexter DX Series Electric Over Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator # K71-651 should both engage the trailer brakes and release them within a second or two of you applying or releasing the pedal. Several things could cause the delay you are experiencing. There could be an issue with the check valve within the actuator (which is not user serviceable) that is not allowing the fluid pressure to be released. You could also have a collapsed brake line somewhere on the trailer that again is preventing...

  • Does Louder Than Normal Propane Regulator Noise Mean the Regulator Is Going Bad?
  • While it might be a sign that it's going bad, it's also worth noting that as the weather gets colder it's going to make a bit more noise- so it's not unusual at all for this to occur and the noise isn't always a sign of malfunction. The one thing you might want to consider before changing out the regulator is making sure that the sound isn't actually coming from the check valves on the pigtails. I've seen a lot of instances of this being the source of the extra noise and swapping out the...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Running/Parking/Clearance Lights Not Functioning
  • Since there are no headlights on a trailer, I assume you are having issue with the clearance and tail lights on your trailer often referred to as parking or running lights. These lights receive signal from your vehicle via the 7-way trailer connection. This will be in the 11 o'clock position on your trailer connection. I've attached a photo to assist. If those lights don't turn on when you connect your trailer, first check your vehicle fuses for trailer parking lamp and then use a...
